I have owned this scale for a few months and the weight it reads varies by 20-30 pounds between readings. This is a poorly built and poorly warranted scale. I would highly recommend a different brand and scale altogether.

After researching scales from expensive to cheap and reviews good and bad, I decided to give this scale a try... I was not disappointed. I've only had the unit about a week, but have given it a few tests and conclude that at under $20 and free shipping (for silver) it is a great value and a fine scale. It is slightly "picky" in some ways, but I can live with that. The manual is available in pdf form from the myweigh web site /elite.html. The black and silver are identical except for color.. don't know why the near 33% price premium for the black.Pluses1. Large, legible, backlighted readout2. Excellent both at accuracy and repeatability*3. Sleek design, compact (1ft x 1ft x 1in) and available in black or silver4. Batteries are cheap and readily available ie.Sony Lithium 3V Batteries Size CR2032 (Pack of 5)5. Readout units quickly changed via a stepping switch on back (each push changes to the next level) to give pounds, stones and pounds, or kilograms6. Sturdy and lightweight with no moving parts.7. It has an "overload" and a "lo" battery condition indicator (see manual)8. It indicates a "valid" reading by showing the final weight, then "blinks" twice and read steady. If it doesn't do that you have not followed the procedure and the weight will be wrong.Minuses1. Uses "button" batteries rather than AA or AAA which would give better life [Edit: The batteries failed Jan '13 so they lasted about 15 months of rare usage.. less than 100 uses]2. Needs you to be still and balanced to give a good reading3. Slippery when wet (you can put anti-slip "tub stickers" on the stepping area to prevent this problem.. it won't affect the scale)4. Needs to be on a flat, firm surfaceWarnings:1. IMPORTANT.. the scale has a built in "proper reading complete" indication. Not insuring this is correct will guarantee that your readings are WRONG! You must stand steady until the scale "completes" by blinking twice and then a steady reading.. if you don't see this, there is a problem. If the reading just blacks out instead of blinking it is because you are either not steady or are standing off balance (such as on one side of the scale)2. Use on FLAT, EVEN, FIRM surface. Be sure it won't "wobble" when wiggled while sitting where you plan to use it. If you have a carpeted area, you might consider buying a single, flat 1x1ft tile from somewhere like Lowes and set the scale on it. That should solve that issue.3. Be SURE to "standardize" the scale before use.. it MUST be done for accurate readings. From the manual you're warned in essence to "place the scale on a flat surface where you intend to use it and then cycle the power one time by touching it til on and letting it turn off (should read 0.0)" and to do that anytime the unit is relocated or moved.4. And don't forget to pull out the plastic shipping tab from the battery holder or the scale won't work :)5. Don't leave anything on or leaning against the top or it will drain the batteries quickly.I feel these negatives are minor and managable. The truth is that proper weight readings does take a bit of care and knowing the procedure, but if you do that it's golden! Bottom line is this unit is a fine scale and a great value. I have read of people's problems with it, but my unit showed no sign of any of these issues.*Notes about "accuracy": No scale is absolutely accurate, and of course just because a readout is to the nearest decimal doesn't mean it is accurate or repeatable to that level. This scale seems to be both repeatable and accurate to about a half pound in my weight range. The low end seems ok as well. It certainly isn't intended to compete with say a postage scale, but as long as you're weighing items of substance (such as people) you should get great performance. I did not check to see if wide ranges in temperature affects the readings.. it likely does to some degree. I didn't do enough checking on this issue to see how significant it is. Proper function requires that it be left in a given location where you use it rather than moving it around between readings, otherwise you must re-standardize.If I learn more, I will update.Update 12/31/12 .. Just an observation.. I keep this in a room where the heat is normally not on.. consequently it can get quite cold (40F ish) and the battery is too weak to operate when it's that cold.. I have to move it to a warmer place and it works fine. This is not a fault of the unit

Don't buy this... unless you still don't want to know how much you weigh. I step on it and it says one weight, then I step on it immediately after and it will say a totally different weight. The only time in between the two weigh periods is the time for me to step off and back on again. So who knows which number is correct.
