The Health-o-meter HDM753DQN-95 runs on 2 AA batteries (not 4 as described by Amazon). It must be turned on by tapping the right front corner of the scale, which is also used to select a user number (1 - 4) and to reset the tracking history. The user then waits for the scale to set to zero and for the instruction to step on the scale. It takes several seconds for the scale to stabilize on a weight. Any movement by the user during this period result in an error display (E).It took me several tries to learn how to remain still on the platform to get a valid weight reading. Repeated tries over a 3-4 minute period produced the same reading, which demonstrates the scale's reliability. The instruction to step off appears when the scale displays the user's weight.I sometimes stepped off the scale without being able to read the displayed weight, but tapping on the selector corner and choosing my user number, displayed the latest reading. Indeed, it was the tracking feature that caused me to select this scale and I was not disappointed.

I just love this scale. It's attractive, lightweight and works well. I don't use the weight tracking feature, but it's nice to have it. It has been pretty accurate and consistant. I think this is a great scale at a great price. The only thing is do not clean the top surface with water, as it says in the directions, or stand on it with wet feet.

I bought this scale a year ago and upon first and subsequent uses could never get it to display anything but the dreaded "E" (error). I should have taken the thing back right then and there - but procrastinated about it. My spouse CAN use it successfully - which made me wonder: was I really THAT fat that it wouldn't read my weight? My weight on a doctor's scale confirmed that wasn't the case, but since I usually use how my clothing fits to determine my size, I stopped worrying about the scale. When my clothes started to fall off of me, I was curious and I tried the scale again - magically I got a reading. But again, the next time I tried it - not only did it Error about 10 times in a row, but it then told me I had gained 5 pounds (which was not the case when compared to another scale).I can deal with having to step on and off the thing and hold my breath and think happy thoughts to get it to actually display my weight one in 12 times I get on it. The issue is that after stepping on and off about 20 times, I get weights that are anywhere from 2 to 10 pounds different (up or down) which makes me kind of nuts. I have no idea by using this scale what I actually weigh; I just have to average all the numbers and note a trend that is either up or down.Today I've either gained five pounds or lost seven. The rest of my family can continue to use this scale (they also say that each time they step on it, it says something different even within minutes of weighing), but I won't as it tends to really ruin my mood when I do.
